Selected Works. Volume I
The first volume of the Selected Works of Tura Mirzayev, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan and recipient of the "Fidokorona Xizmatlari Uchun" (For Selfless Service) Order, includes two of his major monographs—The Epic Repertoire of Folk Bakhshi (1979) and Uzbek Variants of the Epic Alpomish (1968)—as well as a selection of his most significant scholarly articles on folklore studies. The monograph The Epic Repertoire of Folk Bakhshi consists of two parts. The first part examines the general issues of the epic storytelling tradition, stylistic differences among bakhshi performers, and the role of the bakhshi as both a creator and a performer of epic works. The second part presents an analysis of a number of epic works based on the creative heritage and repertoire of the distinguished folk poet Ergash Jumanbulbul o‘g‘li. The monograph Uzbek Variants of the Epic Alpomish provides a comparative analysis of the classical versions of the Alpomish epic and discusses the origin and historical development of the versions and variants of the Uzbek epic tradition, particularly Alpomish. It also examines the artistic features of the epic, its plot structure, and the transformation of individual narrative motifs. This volume is intended for scholars of folklore and literary studies, professors and lecturers of philological faculties at higher educational institutions, doctoral researchers, and students.
