This monograph explores the theoretical views, scholarly achievements, and creative activities of Professor Hodi Tillayevich Zarifov, Doctor of Philological Sciences, who made an outstanding contribution not only to the collection and study of invaluable examples of Uzbek oral folk literature but also to making this rich cultural heritage accessible to the public. Particular attention is given to his principles for collecting, editing, and publishing folklore works, his original theoretical concepts, and his distinguished place in the history of scholarship as a researcher of Uzbek classical literature. Hodi Zarifov authored more than 150 scholarly works devoted to the theoretical issues of Uzbek folklore studies. His research covers such important fields as the schools of Uzbek epic storytelling, the art of bakhshi performers, the lives, creative heritage, and repertoires of folk bakhshi-poets, epic studies, the history of folklore studies, ritual folklore, theoretical folklore studies, and folklore textual criticism. Through these fundamental contributions, he established the Uzbek school of folklore studies and developed it into one of the world's leading scholarly traditions in the field.
