The History of Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur and the Literary Heritage of Baburid Writers
Like their illustrious ancestor Babur Mirza, the Baburid princes recited numerous poems from memory at literary gatherings, expressed profound and original ideas, composed impromptu verses, and compiled their own divans (collections of poetry). Among Babur's descendants were divan-compiling poets such as Humayun, Kamran, Dara Shikoh, Zeb-un-Nissa, Azfari, and Bahadur Shah Zafar, as well as scholar-rulers including Akbar Shah, Jahangir Shah, and Aurangzeb. Babur Mirza's daughter, Gulbadan Begum, gained worldwide recognition through her work Humayun-nama. Following the example of his illustrious ancestor Amir Timur, the author of Tuzuk-i Timuri, and his grandfather Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur, the author of Baburnama, Jahangir Shah composed his own memoir, Tuzuk-i Jahangiri.
